Camera Shakes
I watched The Hunger Games this past weekend and while I found the movie enjoyable overall, I was annoyed with the camera work at times. The amount of bobbing and motion blur throughout took me out of experience. It’d have been nice to clearly see what was going on.
(Possible spoiler ahead.)
Was anyone else disappointed in how Katniss obtained the mockingjay pin? A free pin from the market whilst trading nightlock didn’t really create much of an impact. The origin of the mockingjay wasn’t even explained.
Yes! It’s like, screw side characters, we can’t afford the 1 minute of screen time it would take for someone to come on screen and say, “Have this Katniss, it belonged to my aunt. Take it as your token from the district.” “Thanks Madge.” “Peace out.”
And as for camera work, maybe they wanted it to be more “realistic”. Like paranormal activity or something. I hope the others aren’t like this.
I agree! It wouldn’t have taken that much screen time to explain it. Even if the pin belonged to her dad, it would have been better than the market idea.
And now you lose the significance of the aunt and her relation as a tribute to Haymitch…
I hope Finnick is hot though. Like, really hot.
I think some of the camera work was related to keeping the move rated PG-13. My son and I both read the boks and wondered how they were going to represent the violence in a way that still allowed the movie to work. If the violence had been treated like the book reads, it would have meant an R rating, which would have doomed the movie.
Oh god, ignore me spelling please…
I hadn’t thought of that, but it would make sense to have violence be implied through shakes of the camera off screen. I did hear at least one complaint from someone who said she got nauseous during some of the arena scenes. How did you son like the movie compared to the book?
That makes sense to keep it rated PG-13. There was a lot of camera shake during the Reaping portion though, which was all the more noticeable because it was so quiet in those scenes.
Hopefully they’ll find a less distracting solution for the next movies.
